It is with vibrant color and light that Von interprets nature onto the canvas. The approach she uses is derived from that very love of luminous color and the loose, dramatic style of the Impressionists. Traveling and studying abroad, particularly in Italy and France, where she has studied with Connie Winters, inspires her as she captures the beauty she sees in landscapes. Her skill is equally evident in still lifes, interiors and portraiture, especially with children as her subjects.
Von has also studied oil painting with Barbara Flowers, C.W. Mundy, Carolyn Anderson, Ken Auster and other internationally acclaimed artists. She graduated from Hood College in Maryland, where she studied both English and Art. She and her husband Houston have three grown children and eight grandchildren. At home in Summerfield, North Carolina, Von is a passionate gardener and birder. She paints in her sunlit studio, her beloved dogs and cats often at her feet.
